This was an incredible experience, and I am excited to return tomorrow to continue learning. I spent the morning shadowing Ashley, where I observed both robotic and gynecological procedures. She was welcoming, patient, and excellent at answering my questions while explaining the anesthesia care being provided throughout each case. In the afternoon, I shadowed Camille, a second-year CAA student from Nova Southeastern University, through induction, maintenance, and emergence for a neuro case. The patient's hemodynamics required ongoing intervention throughout the procedure, giving me a valuable opportunity to observe real-time anesthesia management. Camille was outstanding at explaining her clinical decision-making and answering my questions. I learned so much from both Ashley and Camille and truly appreciated their willingness to teach. I can only hope for further opportunities!

I shadowed Bishoy and Nathan at HCA Trinity Hospital and it was an amazing experience. I got to see two C-sections, a gall bladder removal, epidural block, and partial thyroidectomy. Bishoy was a wonderful provider to witness and extremely personable with patients, especially in the obstetrics floor. He demonstrated great knowledge and wisdom of the practice of anesthesia. He answered every question I had and was very patient with explaining. Nathan was also a great teacher and further solidified concepts Bishoy had previously taught. Nathan showed me around the OR and we were able to take a close look at the “Da Vinci” surgical machine. I would recommend this experience to anyone interested in this career, as it gave a first-hand look into what being a CAA entails. I am so grateful to have discovered this shadowing experience!

My experience shadowing at HCA trinity was fantastic. They are incredibly organized with a clear cut process and scheduling system. The $50 application fee was well worth the organization. I had a fantastic time shadowing and was able to watch three surgeries. Each person I shadowed was happy to answer all of my questions and explain anesthesia in depth.

I shadowed for 2 days at this hospital with both of the coordinators and I believe it was such valuable experience. I saw so many incredible procedures, such as lobectomy, pyleoectomy, hysterectomy and many more, while learning so much about the career. Each CAA talked to me about their program experience and about their job now. I also got to talk to a variety of student AAs, which I found really helpful. I would recommend this program to anyone and will be back here soon!

I shadowed for three days and saw a wide variety of cases. I spoke with professionals in a range of fields, including CAAs, SAAs, anesthesiologists, and other providers of different specialties . Everyone at the facility was super nice and welcoming. They answered all my questions and taught me many things about anesthesia and the role of a CAA. I felt extremely prepared for my AA application and future career as a CAA after this experience. I have already recommended this program to many other aspiring CAAs. If you can, I highly recommend participating in this opportunity.

I shadowed for two days and saw a wide variety of cases and got to meet a lot of great CAAs. A few of the CAAs were even supervising student AAs which allowed me to observe the student learning process and talk to them as well. Stephen, Sonia, Kent, and Asia were all great to observe and provide insight on the anesthesia process. I also got to talk with one of the Anesthesiology Physicians about his perspective on the work the CAAs do. Great program! Highly recommend!

I had the privilege of shadowing the anesthesia care team at HCA Trinity Health over 3 days. From observing an ACDF surgery using TIVA on my very first morning, to watching robotic Da Vinci, colonoscopy, and endoscopy cases, every moment was invaluable. The team was incredibly welcoming; they took the time to explain medications, teach me how to read the anesthesia monitor, walk me through the standard induction sequence, and even share admission tips. What stood out most to me was how genuinely excited everyone was to invest in someone just starting out. As an international student who left home at 16 and flew alone more than 10,000 miles to pursue this dream, being welcomed the way I was meant everything. This experience confirmed exactly why I want to become a CAA.

I had the opportunity to shadow two different CAAs over two days, which gave me a rich and diverse experience. I observed multiple CAAs in action and appreciated how they connected me with current students. Speaking with them about their journeys gave me valuable insight into the program and profession. I also had the opportunity to observe a variety of procedures, ranging from epidural placements to robotic surgery, all within just two days. Overall, it was an incredibly eye-opening and meaningful experience.

I shadowed for 3 days and got to see a wide variety of cases. A few of the cases I observed were a prostatectomy, nephrectomy, an inguinal hernia repair, and more. The CAAs were very informative, explaining the purpose of each drug used and sharing insights about the career. It was also especially helpful to be paired with an SAA, who was able to provide firsthand insight into the schooling experience and provide tips

My shadowing experience with HCA Trinity was excellent. The shadowing portal was seamless, it was easy to upload required documents, receive reminders, and retrieve all school shadowing forms in one place. During my experience, I was able to observe robotic cases, including the single-port robot, orthopedic cases, and regional anesthesia. The entire anesthesia team was welcoming, encouraged observers to get closer, answered questions, and took the time to explain procedures. Thank you HCA Trinity, for such a valuable and engaging experience!

I very much appreciated and enjoyed my time shadowing at HCA Florida Trinity Hospital. I observed several different cases, including a hysterectomy and a C-section. During my two days, I shadowed Bishoy and Jeremiah, who provided valuable insight into the daily responsibilities of a CAA. I learned about the medications used in each case and gained a better understanding of how anesthesia plans are tailored to each patient and procedure. In addition, I had the opportunity to speak with student AAs about their experiences in the Anesthesiologist Assistant program. This gave me a valuable perspective on the curriculum and clinical rotations of the program. This experience has overall enhanced my interest in pursuing a career as a CAA and provided me with a greater appreciation for the teamwork, critical thinking, and patient care involved in the profession.

“I've applied to shadow at other hospitals before and would wait weeks just to hear back. When I reached out to Trinity, the team got back to me the same day. I actually flew in from out of state just for this experience and it was absolutely worth it. The process from start to finish was seamless.”

I have only shadowed one time at HCA Trinity but I had an amazing time everyone was very welcoming especially the CAA I was shadowing that day! I sat in on multiple different surgeries which was awesome that I could see multiple things done in one day. Overall and an amazing experience and can’t wait to go back for my second soon!

The $50 application fee helps support the application portal and the organized system that makes this program possible. This is not a basic shadowing sign-up form. Our portal was built to make the entire process faster, easier, and more professional for students. It allows applicants to submit their information, upload required documents, track their application, receive updates, and move through the approval process without confusion or unnecessary delays. A major reason we are able to respond to applicants so quickly, often almost instantly, is because of the system we have built behind the scenes. Our CAA Clinical Observer Program has also grown into a highly respected program that attracts students from across the country. Applicants have traveled from states such as Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, and many others specifically to observe with our team and learn more about the CAA profession. That level of interest requires a program that is organized, reliable, and able to handle applications professionally. The fee helps maintain the website, application portal, document system, communication process, and scheduling workflow that keep the experience smooth from the moment a student applies. It also helps support the time and coordination needed to review applications, process documents, manage approvals, and prepare observers for their clinical experience. Your application fee helps us maintain the level of quality, speed, and professionalism that students from across the country have come to expect from our program..

Most applications are reviewed within a few business days. You can check your application status anytime using your tracking ID.
